Food, Glorious (…And Not So Glorious) Food!

This is a good warning/great advice to everyone out there: NEVER drink Pepsi on an empty stomach, especially first thing in the morning. After that, pretty much everything goes straight through you and pretty much everything coming out of your ass will guaranteed to be liquid. I forgot that Coke & Pepsi can strip paint off of cars and clear minor clogged drains (it’s true, I tried it with a 2-liter bottle and a clogged bathtub and it works). Not great breakfast food and makes every meal after that a chore.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday I had a little short family barbecue for the 4th. Sophia’s mom is moving to a new place later in the month. It’s not too far from Sophia’s school but a little farther from my office to mess with the timing of picking her up every day from school. Anyway we had a cookout with her new landlord and new downstairs neighbor. It’s actually a very nice set up and the landlady is a real hoot. You’d be amazed at the stuff she’s leaving them when they move in. So I got to go there for a quick BBQ lunch before I headed off to work (yep, I worked on the 4th but I get holiday pay which is needed right now). I got them to start up the grill when I got there—if I hadn’t they would’ve ate much later and I would have missed out. I didn’t have much breakfast at all before going there, just enough to keep awake at the wheel. i dove into the steak tips and kielbasa; man I was stuffed after half that kielbasa. Great food though and a fun time. Sophia and I were kicking a soccer ball back and forth in their new backyard. She’s going to like it there.

I got to see the fireworks in Boston two ways: on TV captioning the Boston Pops for CBS, and then from the bridge linking the two new buildings of WGBH’s new offices. Had a decent view of downtown from there. Quite a nice way to spend the holiday.
